Based on the acclaimed book series by Lee Child — specifically the novel "Killing Floor" — "Reacher" revolves around the life of action hero Jack Reacher. Once a member of the U.S. Military Police Corps, this musclebound protagonist finds himself at the center of conflict wherever he goes. Of course, he didn't find any trouble on Prime Video. Instead, he found instant success.

Prime Video's "Reacher" series made history by becoming the service's first TV project to top Nielsen's streaming ratings chart when it was released early in 2022. People clearly like watching big dudes beat up bad guys, and with plenty of source material to draw upon, we'll get to see more of the titular hero in action in the very near future. "Reacher" Season 2 is on the way, and we can't be anymore excited. If you want to know more about what the Prime series has in store, read on for everything you need to know about the second season of "Reacher."

When will Reacher Season 2 be released?

Like the sprawling saga of Lee Child action novels upon which the Prime Video series is based, "Reacher" presents each season as a self-contained unit based on one of the books. And in February 2022, three days after Season 1 debuted on Prime Video, Amazon ordered a second season of the series, which will pull its plot from "Bad Luck and Trouble," the eleventh published novel about U.S. Army veteran, investigator, and itinerant hero Jack Reacher.

Amazon will roll out Season 2 of "Jack Reacher" onto its subscriber-based Prime Video streaming service in a way that partially allows for binging and drums up weekly interest for months. The collection of eight episodes will debut on Prime Video on Friday, December 15, 2023, in the form of three episodes available to watch instantly. The remaining five installments will be uploaded on a one-per-week basis each subsequent Friday, until January 19, 2024.

What is the plot of Reacher Season 2?

Season 2 of "Reacher" pulls from Lee Child's 2007 novel "Bad Luck and Trouble," which finds Jack Reacher attempting to solve, stop, and punish a series of brutal murders with some very personal connections. Before he was a drifter and mercenary-detective, Reacher served in the 110th MP Special Investigations unit for the U.S. Army. Now, years later, members of that group — people Reacher feels a deep kinship with — are seemingly being singled out for savage murder.

Out of a sense of duty, honor, and the need to protect himself and the surviving members of his unit, Reacher is on the case, assisted by his closest collaborators and fellow veterans, including Season 1 ally Frances Neagley, forensic accountant Karla Dixon, and the knife-happy David O'Donnell. As Prime Video's official plot synopsis states, "They begin to connect the dots in a mystery where the stakes get higher at every turn and brings about questions of who has betrayed them — and who will die next." But because Reacher is as wickedly smart as he is impossibly strong, he's bound to get down to the heart of the matter, identify the assailants, and mete out the necessary punishments.

Who is starring in Reacher Season 2?

Alan Ritchson returns as the title character with a penchant for finding trouble. In his first outing as Reacher, the actor showed his commitment to the role through a grueling training schedule; it ultimately led to him needing surgery due to an on-set injury in Season 1. We're hoping he had a less treacherous shoot this time around.

Reacher's past remains a constant presence thanks to the return of actress Maria Sten. Her role as Frances Neagley — a former Military Police colleague who now works as a detective — offers valuable insight into the world he left behind and the experiences that taught him along the way. As for newcomers, "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" star Robert Patrick will replace Rory Cochrane as detective turned private security head Shane Langston, and we'll also see Shaun Sipos ("Outer Range") and Serinda Swan ("Coroner") as Reacher's allies, David O'Donnell and Karla Dixon, respectively.

Rounding out the cast for "Reacher" Season 2, we've got Ferdinand Kingsley, Domenick Lombardozzi, Luke Bilyk, Dean McKenzie, Edsson Morales, Andres Collantes, Shannon Kook-Chun, Ty Victor Olsson, Josh Blacker, and Al Sapienza.

Who is the showrunner for Reacher Season 2?

When Amazon ordered a continuing TV series based on Lee Child's "Jack Reacher" books for its Prime Video streaming service in January 2020, the company simultaneously announced that Nick Santora – a writer and producer who previously worked on previous small-screen action hits like "Prison Break," "Breakout Kings," and "Scorpion" — would oversee the adaptation. Not only would he write all nine episodes of "Reacher" Season 1, but he was slated to serve as executive producer and showrunner too. "Reacher," as a TV series, is thus made under the singular vision of Santora, with franchise creator Child along for the ride in an advisory capacity.

After the successful first run of "Reacher," Santora told TVLine that he was pleased about the series' renewal for Season 2, clearly looking forward to adapting another of Child's many "Jack Reacher" novels for Prime Video and overseeing every aspect as a showrunner once again.

Is there a trailer for Reacher Season 2?

On November 7, 2023, about a month before the debut of "Reacher" Season 2 proper, Amazon released a tantalizing, action-loaded trailer for the upcoming slate of episodes. The clip package opens with a slice-of-life scene that shows just what kind of guy Jack Reacher is and what he's all about. He passes a woman at an ATM, notices her barely perceptible stress and bloodied hand, and surmises she's been carjacked and is being forced to make a withdrawal. Reacher manages to find the carjacker, punches him through the car window, and thoroughly beats up the guy and saves the day, identifying himself to the victim as "someone who prefers not getting involved."

But Reacher is definitely going to have to get involved, as Season 2 of "Reacher" will find him using his detective skills and unmatched brawn to solve and avenge a very personal matter. Reacher was once a military Special Investigator, and it seems that his friends and unit cohorts are being abducted, tortured, and murdered. Reacher adopts a "bring it on" attitude, as the trailer details the creative and violent ways in which he dispatches with the bad guys, with his methods involving automotive airbags, cinder block fights, and rocket launchers. With more clues, jokes, and quips, the trailer for "Reacher" Season 2 teases a thrilling, well-rounded, funny conspiracy show.

Will there be a Season 3 of Reacher?

At the 2023's CCXP entertainment convention in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Amazon used part of its panel presentation to discuss the future of "Reacher." There are a lot of Jack Reacher novels to adapt, and Amazon has found some spectacular success with its Prime Video series based on the Lee Child books. Amazon is so confident that the franchise has legs — in that it anticipates heavy and enduring demand — that it ordered a Season 3 of "Reacher" in December 2023. That renewal arrived a week before the first episode of Season 2 had even become available for public consumption.

No announcements have been made yet about which Jack Reacher novel specifically will serve as the source material of "Reacher" Season 3, nor have any decisions been made about the supporting cast. On the crew side, the most significant development is that star Alan Ritchson will also serve as an executive producer on Season 3, as well as on any additional sets of episodes that Amazon may order in the future.

Where to watch Reacher Season 1

Looking to differentiate itself in the increasingly crowded world of streaming, in which the big players are owned by entertainment conglomerates with their own in-house productions and proprietary content (Max has access to Warner's DC Comics movies; Disney+ has every Disney movie), Amazon is willing to spend a lot of money (and time) to develop its own franchises based on well-known properties for its Prime Video service.

It spent $465 million on the first season of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power," and now, they're deeply invested in the world of Jack Reacher. Lee Child's two dozen plus books featuring the titular itinerant ex-military investigator have sold more than 100 million copies and are a billion-dollar property. When "Reacher" Season 1 hit streaming in 2022, it subsequently did so on Prime Video, Amazon's exclusive streamer. In advance of "Reacher" Season 2, the first season of the series remains available at no extra charge to Prime Video subscribers.
